New Orleans – The Big Easy

New Orleans is the city where I reside and is known as “The Big Easy” because musicians can make a living by booking easy gigs while honing their craft at the same time. The city’s music is its beating heart. The birthplace of Jazz! Blues, live entertainment, and delectable savory foods with an array of options will be sure to satisfy your taste buds as well.

The star of the show, “Mardi Gras,” what else can I say! Oh, let us not forget, Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday is about music, parades, picnics, floats and excitement. It is one big holiday in New Orleans.

Second-line, a New Orleans original street party is a tradition that was brought to New Orleans by enslaved Africans and has been an essential part of life and death in the Big Easy since the 19th century.

Bourbon Street is the main tourist attraction, famous for its many bars, entertainments, restaurants, strip clubs, street musicians, and drinks beyond measure, notably the famous Hurricane and Hand Grenade.

Take a stroll down Frenchmen Street, the main artery of the Marigny neighborhood, just down the Mississippi River from the French Quarter. As Bourbon Street became more tourist-focused, Frenchmen Street emerged as a spot for locals to enjoy live local music.

You will learn to pronounce ‘French sounding” street names such as Milan, Chartres, Tchoupitoulas, to name a few. Cultural shopping, swamp tours, plantation homes, and Steamboat cruises down the Mississippi River will captivate your attention.

New Orleans has character and charm – notably beautiful architecture, Colorful homes in the Faubourg, Marigny, and Bywater district. From Historic Garden District Victorians to a Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired manse in Lake Vista.

Learn about New Orleans with a carriage ride around the French Quarter, after which you can have some beignets paired with a cup of coffee at Café du Monde, a renowned open-air coffee shop located on Decatur Street in the French Quarter.

Take a streetcar ride up St Charles Ave uptown – New Orleans’s most affluent neighborhoods encompassing Tulane and Loyola universities and the Audubon Park.

The Cathedral-Basilica of St louis also known as St Louis Cathedral is the oldest active Roman Catholic church in the United States. It is one of New Orleans’ most notable landmarks.
